There is no syllabus and no fixed order. ## Making mistakes is the whole point Making mistakes is the only way to learn a language. It’s difficult and it should feel difficult. Tiwtor does nothing to avoid this, in fact actively encourages it, with one aim being that the learner should become comfortable with such difficulty. ## Immersion over gamification Learning a language is difficult. There’s no avoiding that, and Tiwtor does not pretend otherwise! Tiwtor has no streaks, no points, no path to fall off. No punishment. Instead, Tiwtor is a set of tools built to make the struggle - the repetition - as effective as it can be as opposed to keeping you “engaged” and on the platform (looking at you Duolingo!) ## “Living Welsh” instead of “Book Welsh” Out of the box, Tiwtor focuses on the Welsh that people speak, as opposed to “book” Welsh. The aim is not to pass an exam, but to be able to speak & understand Welsh. Our [collections](#linktocollections) support both De & Gog as standard - but using our authoring tools you can assemble phrase lists and exercises covering any flavour of Welsh, whether it’s [Dyfedeg](#dyfedeg) or [Y Wladfa](#ywldfa)! <!-- create a resource page covering all the different welsh flavours --> ## Child-like learning The aim with Tiwtor is to create a more “child-like” learning experience. A child doesn’t memorise grammar rules or spend time thinking about grammar before speaking. They hear the same shapes hundreds of times and the patterns settle as time goes by. They make mistakes, unapologetically - and they undergo constant exposure. All our exercises aim to recreate this experience - whether reciting Flashcards, memorising a monologue or listening to a looped conversation over and over again (until you hear it in your sleep!) That’s not to say you can’t explore the grammar when the feeling comes. Grammar IS interesting - just not a requirement. If you like, the AI-powered [Tiwtor Assistant](#linktofeature) is always there to explain the why and the **wtf**. ## Hit it from all angles Flashcards for recall and repetition. Listening exercises for understanding. Monologues for speaking and flow. Reading for exposure. Exercises pull from the same phrase lists you’re learning via flashcards. Being able to recall a phrase or a construction is great - but your brain needs to be able process it whilst someone speaks, or when you’re under pressure! ## Relevant beats general It is much easier to put time into learning when the phrases are relevant to your own life! If you’re a father to welsh speaking kids, it’s more useful to learn “Stop bickering back there!” than “The cow sits on the grass” You can pick & choose stuff to learn from our [collections](#collections) or use our authoring tools to create your own phrase lists & exercises. <!-- todo: use welsh phrases above instead please... and translate on hover (perhaps using our translation tools - could even link into a phrase detail...?) --> ## Simple by default, deep by choice It’s simple to get started with Tiwtor. Pull stuff from our collections into your queue and you’re off. However we also aim to be deeply customisable. Everything from the [spaced repetition algorithm](#fsrs) to the content itself should be configurable in order to allow for a truly personalised language learning journey
